Collaboration between Gemesis and ASAP Safeguard
Gemesis and ASAP Safeguard are collaborating to enhance ASAP’s aircraft protection solutions by integrating piezoelectric technology. This initiative aims to incorporate flexible piezoelectric sensors to improve the monitoring capabilities of aircraft on the ground, focusing primarily on the business and military aviation sectors.
Integration of Flexible Piezoelectric Sensors
ASAP Safeguard, an expert in protection systems for parked aircraft, is working with Gemesis to integrate flexible piezoelectric sensors. These sensors, designed to fit onto removable and foldable structures, provide precise pressure measurements without affecting the functionality or mobility of the protective equipment. The ongoing development aims to provide a 3D visualization of pressure data, enabling detailed analysis of mechanical stresses on aircraft at rest.
The Piezoelectric Effect and Its Applications
The piezoelectric effect, which allows certain materials to convert mechanical pressure into electrical voltage, is at the core of this technology. Integrating flexible piezoelectric sensors presents challenges such as precise calibration and incorporation into modular, transportable systems. The acquisition systems being developed must reliably capture piezoelectric signals while adapting to structures that can be disassembled and folded for easy storage and transport.
Enhancing Ground Surveillance
The collaboration focuses on improving ground surveillance and maintenance of aircraft by integrating innovative technologies. Flexible piezoelectric sensors, combined with removable and foldable structures, provide an opportunity to significantly enhance aircraft protection systems. This approach not only enables increased monitoring but also offers great flexibility in the use and deployment of protective equipment, paving the way for more effective preventive maintenance and optimized risk management for parked aircraft.
