GEMESIS x NexTherm Sensing: Integrating Heat Flux Measurement into Test Benches

6 October 2026 by
Michele Fameni

Temperature alone is not always sufficient to understand a thermal phenomenon. To characterize energy transfer, heat flux measurement provides essential complementary information.

With this in mind, GEMESIS and NexTherm Sensing are developing a partnership focused on heat flux measurement and its integration into test facilities.

Beyond the Sensor

NexTherm Sensing develops measurement technologies for different heat flux levels, from a few kW/m² to several MW/m², covering transient, dynamic and continuous phenomena.

GEMESIS brings its systems integration expertise to turn this measurement into a complete test bench function:

  • Sensor selection and measurement range definition
  • Mechanical integration and instrumentation
  • Data acquisition and synchronization with other measured parameters
  • Integration into  GEMS and test sequences
  • Data processing and analysis
  • Design of custom fixtures or dedicated test benches

Applications Across Multiple Industries

This approach can address testing requirements in batteries, hydrogen, combustion, fuel cells, heat exchangers, thermal management, fire testing, thermal protection, propulsion, aerospace, defense and fast thermal phenomena.

The objective is to move from a heat flux sensor to a fully integrated characterization solution within the test bench.
