Heat Exchangers and Thermal Management

From Global Measurement to Local Characterization

Context

Traditionally, the exchanged power is calculated from the fluid flow rate and the temperature difference (ΔT).

Direct heat flux measurement provides complementary information about where energy is actually transferred.

CHF sensors are specifically designed for applications involving fluid flows, heat exchangers, burners and power generation.

Applications

  • Liquid-to-liquid heat exchangers
  • Gas-to-liquid heat exchangers
  • Two-phase heat exchangers
  • Battery cold plates
  • Electronics cooling
  • Fuel cell cooling
  • Evaporators
  • Condensers and industrial thermal systems

A matrix of measurement points can also be used to create a 2D heat flux map.

Combined with temperature, pressure and flow measurements, this approach makes it possible to characterize local heat exchanger behavior and compare the results with CFD simulations.
