Hydrogen, Combustion and Fuel Cells
Accurately Quantify Thermal Phenomena Related to Hydrogen
Context
Hydrogen combustion phenomena can occur extremely rapidly. NexTherm Sensing has supplied DHF sensors to INERIS to enhance measurement capabilities for hydrogen safety testing and detect the propagation of combustion fronts.
GEMESIS provides integration of these measurements into dedicated hydrogen test benches.
Applications
- H₂ flame characterization
- Hydrogen burners
- Flame propagation
- Thermal effects of an ignited hydrogen leak
- Thermal protection validation
- Heat exchanger and cooling system characterization
Fuel Cells and SOFC
Heat flux measurement is also relevant for the energy characterization of fuel cells.
For high-temperature technologies such as SOFCs, heat flux measurements can complement temperature, gas flow rate and electrical power measurements to better characterize heat transfer within the system.
Combining these measurements makes it possible to study the energy balance, thermal losses and the behavior of associated heat exchangers.
