A Leading Player in Hydrogen Technologies
FC Lab is one of Europe's leading research centers dedicated to hydrogen technologies. Backed by decades of expertise, it operates state-of-the-art test facilities for the characterization, validation, and aging studies of fuel cells and electrolyzers.
Its platforms enable advanced testing campaigns for both research and industrial development by reproducing operating conditions representative of real-world applications.
Modernizing Strategic Test Benches
To extend the service life of four legacy test benches while benefiting from the latest control technologies, FC Lab entrusted GEMESIS with the complete retrofit of their control and automation systems.
The objective was to preserve the performance of the installations while eliminating the risks associated with hardware and software obsolescence.
A Complete Test Bench Retrofit
The project included:
- Complete replacement of the control and automation system
- Design and manufacture of new electrical control cabinets
- Integration of new Cell Voltage Monitoring (CVM) solutions
- Development of a new software architecture
- Migration to the GEMS control platform developed by GEMESIS
The entire architecture was designed to improve the maintainability, long-term sustainability, and scalability of the test benches.
A Unified Software Platform
The four test benches are now operated using GEMS, the control platform developed by GEMESIS.
This standardization provides several key benefits:
- A single user interface for all test benches
- Rapid creation of test sequences
- Automation of durability test campaigns
- Execution of standardized operating profiles (including WLTP and other application-specific cycles)
- Data acquisition and full traceability
- An open architecture that supports future system upgrades
As a result, the FC Lab teams now benefit from a modern, standardized, and future-proof environment for conducting fuel cell and electrolyzer testing.
A Partnership Built for the Future
This retrofit demonstrates GEMESIS' ability to modernize complex test facilities while minimizing operational downtime.
Thanks to this upgrade, FC Lab now benefits from a scalable platform capable of supporting the future development of hydrogen technologies.
